Vaping Basics for the Newbie (Part 5) - The Juice

The Juice

E-Juice is used to re-fill your tank and comes in a variety of flavors. E-Juice is made up of Propylene Glycol-PG (in asthma inhalers), Vegetable Glycerin-VG (in many foods to sweeten and thicken), pure liquid nicotine & food grade flavoring. All juices are different and there are many different percentage mixtures. When a juice is a 50/50, that means it is 50% Propolene Glycol & 50% Vegetable Glycerin. Different mixtures hold flavor and produce vapor different than others. We prefer a 50/50 mix because it holds the best flavor, produces the best vapor and burns wicks less often. The nicotine levels available are: 0mg, 6mg, 12mg, 18mg & 24mg. A cigarette is 16mg. Too much nicotine can cause a sore throat, since the nicotine in vapors is VERY pure and not wrapped in all the other carcinogens that are in a cigarette.

Some people have allergies to PG or VG and need mixtures that are low in the particular ingredient they are allergic to. PG allergy can cause a "heavy chest" feeling. VG allergy can cause an itchy mouth or thrush like symptoms. These allergies are rare and can be worked around to help the user continue their journey into vaping.

Vaping Basics for the Newbie (Part 4) - The Wick

The Wick

All tanks have a coil or wick (also called an atomizer) that is made of material that is wrapped with a thin wire. When you power the battery, this wick is heated and the juice is heated until vapor is produced. Coils do not last forever and need to be replaced ($2-$3 typically). Depending on how much you vape, your coil can last 1 week to 1 month. To help your coil last longer, make sure you are not pushing the power button on your battery unless you are drawing on your vapor. The air you draw through the atomizer helps to cool it as it heats up and this keeps the material from burning too quickly. A burnt coil will taste smokey or burnt and may leak juice or be very hard to draw on.

Tips for a good vaping experience

Hitting a dry wick will burn it more quickly and taste burnt or harsh. Setting your tank on it's side for extended periods can dry the wick out. Also, an underfilled tank that has top wicks can dry it out. If you think your wick is not fully wet with juice, draw a few times on your tank without battery power to pull some oil into your wick.

If you tank is bubbling a little, your atomizer may be flooded. Remove it from the tank (if yours is rebuildable) and dry it gently with a paper towel. Use a q-tip to dab out any excess oil in the tube that runs from your mouth to the coil (tube where the vapor comes into your mouth). Put it back together and try again. Always make sure that you do not lose the rubber washers on your tank, these keep it from leaking. If yours is a disposable tank, simply put a thin q-tip down the tube and wick out the excess oil.

If you tank is bubbling a lot, there may be a leak or your atomizer is burnt and it is time for another one. Exterior leaking is a sign of damage or missing/ill fitting washers. Leaking onto the battery is a sign of a burnt wick or flooded wick/coil. Do not continue to use a tank that is leaking onto your battery, this will get into the battery core and ruin the connections in your battery.

Vaping Basics for the Newbie ( Part 3 ) - The Tank

The Tank

Your tank comes in two types:

Disposable -

These are thrown away when the coil is burned up. Keep them full if you can, and they will last longer. The coil sits at the top of this style tank.

Re-Buildable -

These tanks just take a replacement coil and the tank apparatus should last as long as it is not damaged or misused. Depending on the tank style your coil may be at the bottom or top of your tank. If your coil is at the top of the tank, it is best to keep these tanks as full as you can, so there is always juice sitting in the wick, ready to vape.

Vaping Basics for the Newbie (Part 2) - The Battery

The Battery

Batteries come in many different sizes.  Some of the most common are 650mah - 900mah - 1100mah and
they get larger from there.  The larger the number, the longer the battery will last between chargings.  Some batteries are Variable Voltage (VV).  The means you can turen the voltage up or down to find the "sweet spot" on any tank you connect it to.  The gives the vaper the ability to fully control their experience. 

Battery manufacturers state that most battery cells will take around 200-300 charges before it needs to be replaced.....BUT the battery can develop a memory if it is not run almost completely out and charged completely before the next use.  This will shorten it's lifespan quickly.  Many people find it is best to own at least 2 batteries so that they can vape on the spare while the other is charging.  When you screw your battery onto the charger, do not overtighten, this will spin the post and cause malfunction.  Always clean and check your battery for oil when removing it to charge.  Using a lysol wipe or a wet cloth, wipe the interior and exterior threading on your battery, this will keep them from gumming up your charger and also from wearing out too soon.

If your battery suddenly stops working on a particular tank, check to make sure the post (inside the cup on the top of your battery) has not fallen and is not touching the metal tip of the atomizer (on the bottom of your tank).  This is caused by over-tightening the tank or allowing e-juice to sit in the cup of the battery.  The rubber washer under the post of the battery is no longer "springy" and the post has "fallen".  It is not connecting to the atomizer.  Try replacing your atomizer or you can  carefully lift the post in your battery..... just a little, to see if you can get the post and atomizer to touch again.

Vaping Basics for the Newbie (Part 1) - The Basics

Ready to start your vaping experience?  Want to make sure you are doing it right?

Having trouble understanding your equipment? We will attempt to cover some of the most basic use and troubleshooting facts and tips here.

THE THINGS YOU WILL NEED:

• The Battery
• The Tank (cartomizer/clearomizer)
• The Wick
• Charging cord & wall/car port
• E-Juice

Here are the basics we have found helpful for our customers in the store:

These products are not like cigarettes!  You do not have to draw really hard and fast to get a nice big vape.... in fact a long, slow draw will allow the coil to heat the liquid to the proper temperature for best flavor and vapor production.  Letting the vapor do its job properly will produce better flavor and a much more enjoyable experience for you.  Drawing too hard can also cause your wick to become flooded and you may notice bubbling.  If you desire a larger vapor draw, simply do a few pre-puffs before taking a long slow draw.  (hold the button on your battery down continuously while doing your pre-puffs).

These products are not meant to be handled roughly and all connections are meant to be finger tight only. Over tightening, rough handling, dropping, excess jostling and improper use will cause your equipment to malfunction.
